Our History

An enterprising young man named Joseph W. Wilderman established Wilderman Refrigeration Company as a Washington State Corporation in 1937. Joe had left his job as west coast service manager for Western Dairy, a predecessor to Arden Farms Dairy. He saw a need for soda fountain equipment and began manufacturing this equipment in the Georgetown district of Seattle. One of his early customers was Bartell Drugs. Soda fountains were an important part of the drug store business in those days. The Seattle business license issued was #9 - amazing!


In 1945 land was purchased on Dexter Avenue North, which would become the central business location for the next 55+ years. The building was designed to serve as a showroom, repair shop, warehouse and office for the growing commercial refrigeration business.

As Wilderman Refrigeration Company moved into the 1950s, it became the distributor for Sweden Freezer Soft Serve and Shake making equipment manufactured in Seattle. This led the business into serving the rapidly growing fast-food business. In the mid 1950s the automatic ice makers were becoming more reliable and the company began to install and service ice machines. This became a growing part of the business for many years.


Today, Wilderman Refrigeration Company has a complete line of commercial refrigeration products including ice machines, reach-ins, walk-ins, dispensers and custom designed refrigeration systems. We are proud to be serving well over 1,000 customers with new and used equipment, parts and service.
